An Honest Advisor
Once there was a King. He had only one son whom he loved very much. He was eight years old. One day the king fell ill and became weak. He knew that he would not live for many years. He was worried about his little son. He had many servants for his son. But he needed a good and honest advisor for his son before he died.
One day he was sitting in the court. “He asked his squires, “Am I a savvy and 1 great King?” “Your Majesty! You are the wisest and the best King in the world,” said one of the courtiers, and other courtiers supported him also.
Exclaimed the King. He gave a diamond to each of his courtiers.
The King noticed that there was however only one courtier who sat in a corner quietly and did not say a word. He was a young, handsome man and had a shawl around his shoulders.
The King called him and said, “ You have not answered my question. Don’t you agree with what all the courtiers have said?”
The courtier bowed before the King and said, “Your Majesty! I cannot tell a lie. My answer was slightly different. If you hear, you will not be happy. That’s why I kept quiet.”
“Don’t worry about that, you speak the truth. I will not be angry.” “No doubt, you are a wise and good King,” said the courtier,” but there are many kings who are wiser and better than you.”
The King smiled and gave him a big diamond. He said, “You are an honest man. I am pleased with your answer. You will be my son’s advisor.”
The next day, the other courtiers came to the King and said, “Your Majesty, The diamonds which you gave us, was not real. We took them to a jeweler. He told us that they were not real diamonds. Why did you do so?” The King said, “I did not give you real diamonds because you all told me a lie. The diamonds were not real. They were as bogus as your words.” Hearing this, all the squires felt embarrassed about themselves.
